Munising

Patricia “Pat” Ann Allie, born March 16, 1939, of Munising, passed away peacefully on Friday November 24, 2023 at Medilodge in Munising. She was born in Wetmore Michigan to Edmund and Ora (Carrier) Allie, the last of 13 children as a St. Patrick’s Day storm was brewing. The story goes that her father walked down the hill to Munising to summons the Dr. and a snowplow to guide them back to their home where she was delivered.

Pat graduated from Sacred Heart School and then Wm. G. Mather High School in 1959. Pat was a hard-working independent woman. During and after high school, Pat worked as a waitress at Weiland’s Restaurant. Determined to provide a good home for her two boys, she attended Northern Michigan University to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She began her career as a charge nurse at the Superior Health Haven before moving to Superior Shores. Pat never missed a day of work. She was highly respected by other healthcare workers, co-workers, and especially the employees she supervised.

Pat enjoyed decorating for holidays, especially for Christmas. She made sure to make Christmas a special time for her family, assuring there were plenty of presents. Pat started making candies, chocolate covered cherries and chocolate peanut butter bars, then expanded to a menu of chocolate treats that she shared with many. Health and exercise were important to her and she would often be seen on her walks around Munising alone or with friends. In her retirement she was involved with the Sault Tribe Elders Committee and participated in sponsored trips to places like Chicago and New York City.

In 1969 Pat gave birth to a baby girl and made the difficult decision to put the baby girl up for adoption at birth knowing that was the best choice for the girl and her two sons. Tammy grew up in Escanaba and at the age of 18 was reunited with Pat and her two brothers. The two families became good friends sharing many memories together.

She is survived by her sons Kevin Allie of Munising, Scott (Lisa) Allie of Palatine, IL, Daughter Tammy (Gus) Lorenz of Granada Hills, CA. Grand Children Rachel Lorenz, Erika Allie and Caiden Allie. Her Sister Ora Diem of MN and many nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Lauriel Olson, Lorraine Porter,  Baby Boy Allie, Raymond Allie, Gerald Allie, Genevieve Allie, Edmund Allie, Marilyn Steinhoff, Edwina Knaus, Francis Braun and Bernadine "Bing" Allie.
