Rickie "Rick" Joseph Ake

October 4, 1954 — October 7, 2017

Rickie (Rick) Joseph Ake passed away Saturday Oct 7, 2017 at UP Health Systems Marquette from an unexpected and brief illness. He was born Oct. 4, 1954 to Charles (Stub) and Marie Ake in Munising MI. Rick was employed at Timber Products sawmill for the last 41 years as a Mobile Equipment Operator.

Rick was married June 2, 1979 to Juli Baij. Together they raised a son (Jesse) and daughter (Little Rikki). Rick was a proud father and his life was enriched by his 5 grandchildren that brought him immense joy and purpose. He was an avid outdoorsman who spent his life on the Big Lake whether it was sunset cruising on the pontoon or chopping holes in Trout Bay for Coho. Rick enjoyed hitting golf balls into the woods for an excuse to search for more golf balls. He was looking forward to retirement so he could spend time at his favorite places, Grand Island Playboy Club and Camp Thunderbuck.

Rick loved the Rolling Stones, kitchen coaching his beloved Green Bay Packers, and drinking coffee with lots of sugar. He was a quiet man with smart-ass sense of humor that always kept those he loved laughing.  Rick was a kind hearted soul who fed wildlife in his backyard. He never missed a family dinner and always put his children and grandkids first.

Rick is survived by his wife of 37 years Juli Ake, son Jesse (Jessie Webster), daughter Rikki (Jason Klich), grandchildren Marae, Jamisen, Jolie, Austin, and Evin. Sisters Bonnie and Donna (Udo Derr), brother Clayton (Debbie), Cousins Chuck (Debbie) and Donnie Radtke. Brothers in law Hans (Joann) Perry (Lisa), Mother in Law Phyllis Baij and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind man’s best friend Leia. He was preceded in death by his grandson Baby Boy Ake, brother in law David Cotts, Father in law Hans Baij and parents Marie and Stub Ake.

Please join Rick’s friends and family in a Celebration of Life at Pictured Rocks Golf Course on Saturday October 14th from 2-6pm. In lieu of flowers or gifts please make time for family.
