Robert “Bob” Taylor, age 88, of Chatham, died at his home under the loving care of his family and North Woods Hospice on Thursday afternoon, October 2, 2025. He was born on September 24, 1937 in Flint, Michigan to Robert and Ethel (Nixon) Taylor. Bob grew up in Lake Orion and graduated from high school there. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary, and together they had four daughters. Bob worked for the Bloomfield Police Department and then for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department and Narcotics Unit as an undercover agent. Bob married Debra Morgan, and they moved to the Upper Peninsula. They had three children and Bob worked for the County of Marquette as a program director and grant writer. Debbie preceded him in death in 1993. Bob married Catherine Carlisle and together with their two children raised their blended family on the shores of the Slapneck Creek. Bob retired from Marquette County and spent some time working as an auctioneer in the Munising area. He also helped the Holmquist Feed Mill start up their shingles business. Bob enjoyed spending his days outdoors and working in his garage and barn, unless he was inside watching his Green Bay Packers play. Bob coached his kids in fastpitch softball and he enjoyed watching and coaching their games. He loved to hunt, fish, camp, go to antique shops, and spend time with his wife, kids, and grandkids.

Bob is survived by his wife of over thirty years – Cathy Taylor; children – Cheryl (Scott) Richards, Carrie (Pete) Gumbleton, Kim (Brian) Pollice, Kelly Taylor, Zackary (Lisa) Taylor, Bree Galloway, Kaci (Tony) Flaugher, Cheyenne (Dan) Oswald, and Tobi (James) Fortin; grandchildren – Zoey, Luke, Cole, Jagger, Autumn, Elijah, Penelope*, Kallahan, and other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and mother-in-law – Joan Carlisle. Bob was preceded in death by his father – Robert Taylor, mother and stepfather who raised him – Ethel and Hugh Kennady; brother – John “Jack” Taylor; and father-in-law – Leighton “Bud” Carlisle.
