Grand Marais
Robert Weston, age 79, of Grand Marais, died at his home early Friday morning June 1, 2007. He was born in Dearborn, Michigan on April 9, 1928. Bob graduated from Dearborn High School then continued on to receive a degree in Metallurgy from the University of Michigan. Bob entered the U.S. Navy in October of 1950, where he was a Photographer's Mate until October of 1952. He worked at Sharon Steel Corporations for many years and upon his retirement he and his wife, Nancy moved to Grand Marais. A community spirited individual, he volunteered for the Burt Township Ambulance as an Emergency Medical Technician, served as Corps Chief, and became Emergency Medical Services Instructor Coordinator. Volunteering for Emergency Medical Services, Bob received numerous recognitions and awards for his service. This May, the State of Michigan recognized him again with an award for his work as an EMS provider. At the time of his death he was the oldest licensed EMT in the state of Michigan and active until his illness. Recognizing the need to educate his community in preparedness he worked with disaster/emergency community preparedness, sat on the UPEMS advisory board, LCMCA board, and EMT instructor. Bob was a talented photographer capturing the beauty of our Upper Peninsula surroundings. He has recorded twenty-five years of the changing seasons on film. Bob and Nancy established a small business featuring the arts.
His presence is missed by many in his support of our community in the arts and emergency response as a mentor, a teacher, husband, and father. Bob is survived by his wife Nancy, who shared his life in love and friendship for thirty years. His two sons: Kevin and Scott, daughter Karen, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son James Craig, and granddaughter Johanna. We will miss your spirit and love. There are no services planned at this time.
