Rod was born in Marquette, MI, on March 17th, 1946, to Raymond and Aino (Olli) Schultz. He grew up as their only child in Sault Ste Marie, MI.

Rod was a decorated US Navy veteran who served two tours during the Vietnam War. He enlisted in 1966, choosing the Navy branch due to his love of the water. Once out of the service, Rod returned to the Upper Peninsula and earned a Bachelor's degree in engineering at Michigan Technological University. He spent the rest of his life working and raising his family in the UP, specifically Marquette, Grand Marais, and Gwinn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Aino Schultz.

Rod leaves behind his loving companion, Patty; his daughters, Brenda Schultz, Mandy (Mike) Carlson, Jennifer Krause, and Heather Schultz; his grandchildren, Chloe, Emma, Justin, Matthew, Alyssa, and Monica; his close friend, Mark "Butch" Barney; and his dog, Duely.

A celebration of life service will be held for close family and friends in the summer.
