Wetmore
Rose V. Miron, age 93, of Lost Lake Road, Wetmore, died on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at 2:50 a.m. at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born on July 5, 1913 in Vanderbilt, Michigan to Vincent "Frank" and Paulina "Lena" (nee Lukowski) Waskoski. Rose and her family moved to Munising when she was five years old. She graduated from Sacred Heart School and attended Wm. G. Mather High School. Rose worked at the Beach Inn, Munising Woodenware, and Atlas Plywood. She married George Edward Miron on September 22, 1934. During WWII, they had moved to Detroit and returned to Munising after the War. Rose was a homemaker and raised three girls along with the businesses that she and George owned. They ran their diner called Miron's Mexihot where patrons could enjoy a seat or takeout some great hamburgers. They then owned and operated Miron's Wonder Bar from 1956 until 1975. Following their retirement, Rose and George enjoyed traveling and wintered with their girls in Texas and California. She enjoyed bird and deer hunting with George and she had always prepared a grand picnic basket. Other hunters would stop them in the woods so they could share some of Rose's gourmet lunches. Rose always traveled with her cheese knife. She and George were married over fifty-seven years when he preceded her in death on November 15, 1991 while in Texas.
Rose was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed raking her yard and loved flowers. She was partial to roses, but she grew the most beautiful and majestic dahlias behind the bar. Patrons always wanted to know what her secret was and even accused her of using the old beer as fertilizer. Rose enjoyed many "hot" games of cards with family and friends and she was well known for her banana nut bread and her fudge. She had a "Polish spunkiness" that would lovingly tease anyone that came into her life. Rose loved to dance in her youth, but even at the age of ninety, you could find her "shaking her booty" with her great-grandchildren. She also loved her "granddogs" Bobbie, Charlie Brown, Shadow, Austin, and Tyler.
Rose is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law - Constance (Al) Elya of Florida, Regina Carol Miron of Wetmore, and Kathleen (Greg) Perry of Hunstville, TX; grandchildren - Mark Elya, Julie (Doug) Collins, Kevin (Annie) Elya, Steve (Denise) Elya, Mary (Joe) Heiser, Brian (Rose) Perry, Dean Perry, and Dawn Perry; great grandchildren - Shawn, Brittany, Kaitlyn, and Ella Perry, Emma and Abigail Heiser, and one week old Paige Elya; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, brothers Floyd, Benny, and Leonard Waskoski, and sisters Clara Lakosky, Violet Miron Bradley, Marie Peters, and Elizabeth Zenk.
Services for Rose will be held on Friday, December 1, 2006. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. at the Bowerman Funeral Home. Father Chris Gardiner will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:10 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Munising. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising following the Mass.
