Russ Bernard Holloway

AuTrain

Russ Bernard Holloway, age 21, died on Saturday, August 19, 2023 in Marquette after spending a great day with friends on the AuTrain River.  He was born on September 30, 2001 in Ishpeming to Nathanael and Sara (Carlson) Holloway.  Russ grew up in Munising with cousins and family all around.  He was involved in hockey throughout his youth and young adulthood and played in three State Championship games.  Russ loved playing tennis with the Mustangs and was a natural talent. He worked summers on Grand Island cutting grass and caring for properties, and Russ had worked a couple of summers on the Riptide Ride.    He graduated from Munising High School in 2019.  Growing up, Russ had a collection of Hot Wheels and that passion for cool cars and motorcycles carried on with him into adulthood.  He worked for Waste Management in Negaunee before returning to Munising to go to work at Timber Products.  Russ’ hard work ethics and personality led him to making friends and earning the respect of his supervisors at all his places of employment.  He had an opportunity to go to work at Neenah Paper and was employed by Mativ in the Specialties Department at the time of his death.  Russ had a passion for music, playing the drums loudly, and had a passion for riding his Harley.  He was optimistic and even the worst day didn’t put a damper on his smile – Russ was always ready for the next adventure.   He had a soft spot for animals whether a stray or an exotic lizard (Kimbo Slice) and he loved spoiling his princess dog, Della. Russ was fearless, witty, loyal, kind (not a mean bone in his body), and had an amazing sense of humor, personality, and presence.  He was loved by all who knew him.  Russ was a “Ride or Die” kind of friend.

He is survived by his mom – Sara Holloway; dad – Nathanael (Cindy Tesch) Holloway; sister – Elizabeth Holloway; grandparents – Jude Holloway, Linda Carlson, and John Carlson; great-grandmother – Bonnie Bernard; aunts – Nicole (Robert Richardson)  Robinson and Anna Hicks; uncles – Isaiah (Tiffany) Holloway and Dennis (Janet) Gramm; cousins – Richard (Chelsea), Morgan, Lily, Mikala, Sietie, Kyah, Owen, Isabelle, Ian, Dayne, Julia, and Evi; many great aunts and great uncles, and friends who were like family to him – you know who you are.  Russ was preceded in death by his Papa Dave Holloway, aunt - Gina Lutey; uncles – Russ Lutey and Troy Hicks, great-grandfather Russ Bernard, and Troy White.
