Sharon Ann Frigard, age 81, of Takkinen Road in Chatham, entered eternal life on Tuesday morning, October 29, 2024 surrounded by family and filled with love in her final days at Medilodge in Munising. She was born on March 21, 1943 in Munising to R.V. and Margaret (Britz) Williams. Sharon’s father worked in the lumber camps and her family moved around the area while growing up. She attended school in Trenary. Sharon married Leslie John Frigard, and they raised their three daughters. She was widowed at a young age when Les preceded her in death in 1984. Sharon worked as a certified nurse’s aide at the Health Haven and at Superior Shores. On December 23, 1985 (which happens to be his birthday), she and longtime friend, Wayne Salo, decided to start hanging out together. That partnership lasted almost forty years. Sharon and Wayne were inseparable and a great pair. Sharon took good care of Wayne and of his parents that allowed him to continue working out of town. Wayne took good care of Sharon in sickness and in health. They really were a great pair.
She was an active member of Sion Lutheran Church where she was a member of the women’s guild, volunteered at funeral lunches, taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School, and was available wherever she was needed. She was also a longtime volunteer at the Alger County Fair in Chatham. Sharon liked to be on the go…..all the time. She enjoyed being on the road, taking rides in Wayne’s Cadillac, going to Friday night fish frys, dancing at polka dances in Escanaba, dancing at accordion club dances in Wisconsin, and attending the Concert in the Park series in Munising. She was truly a grandmother to many, and not just to her own. Sharon cared for many children out of her home and the last three were Sophie, James, and Oliver. She loved them all as her own. Sharon and Wayne were great supporters of the Superior Central Cougars and Munising Mustangs sporting events. When the rivals played each other, Sharon would take “grief” from the Superior Central fans for wearing the Mustangs’ orange and black. She would proudly say, “I am supporting my grandson!!!!” Sharon enjoyed birdwatching at home, especially the hummingbirds. She also had a beautiful flower garden that she perfectly maintained for years.
Sharon is survived by her best friend and partner – Wayne Salo of Chatham; daughters – Sherry (Robb) Koch of Tuscon, AZ, Kimberly Frigard of Pinetop-Lakeside, AZ, and Lesley “Nicky” (Bernie) Humphrey of Munising; grandchildren – Ashley (Kyle) Cass, Cheyenne (Tyler) Harper, Trevor Humphrey, and Jordan Humphrey; great grandchildren; sisters – Bev (Sonny) Vardon and Gail Williams; numerous nieces and nephews; dear friend – Tara Rondeau; and numerous other friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne’s parents Linda and Frank Salo, sisters June (Fred) Goin and Patsy Williams; and brothers – Harold (Bid), William “Sonny”, George “Gabby”, Arthur “Kenny”, Robert “Bob”, Onnie, and Clarence Williams.
Services will be held at the Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Visiting time will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon and her memorial service will begin at noon. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham.
