Sharon K. Johnstone, age 77, of Independence, Missouri, died unexpectedly in her sleep on January 29, 2016 in Grand Marais, Michigan. She was born on July 12, 1938 in Kansas City, MO to the late John and Kathryn (Pashcen) Ward. Sharon served twenty years in the Missouri Army National Guard and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 2 in 1998. She married James Johnstone on September 16, 1983. Sharon was an avid reader, talented quilter, and great cook.
She is survived by her husband of thirty-three years – Jim Johnstone, of Independence, MO; children – Lori (Jim) Jones of Overland Park, KS, Richard Rimmer of Independence, Lisa (Al) Young of Independence, and John Rimmer of Dallas, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sharon and Jim were visiting Grand Marais in search of a new home. They loved it here for its beauty and community. With only knowing a handful of the people, the outpouring of compassion, generosity, and support from all of the community following her death, has been greatly appreciated by her family.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Blue Springs Assembly of God in Independence.
