Steven Niemi, 73, of Chatham, MI, died Saturday, December 13, 2025 at U.P. Health System, Marquette, where he had been a patient since November 8th.

Steve was born September 24th, 1952, in Marquette to Raymond and Sinikka Niemi. He grew up in Eben, graduating in 1970 from Eben High School. He furthered his education at Northern Michigan University (NMU), receiving an Associate’s Degree. Steve was a meticulous carpenter and draftsman. He worked briefly in Milwaukee, then in the woods; most recently, he was self-employed. Steve was a lifelong Packer fan, and enjoyed deer camp with his brother-in-law, Dan. Family gatherings were very important to him.

Steve is survived by his two sisters - Donna (Henry) Lampi of Escanaba, MI and Kathy (Dan) McDonough of Cooks, MI; and his sister-in-law, Lori Niemi, of Manistique, MI. His nephews and niece: Max (Cora) Fisher, Joe (Brynn) Fisher, Marissa (Kyle) Painter, Rory (Katherine) McDonough, Charles (Casie) Niemi, Craig Niemi, and Daniel (Archana) Niemi, Beth (Eric) Gurnoe and Niki (Chris) Atkerson. He is further survived by 14 great nephews and nieces, and two great-great nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Robert Niemi.

Per Steve's wishes, cremation was accorded. A private family celebration of life will take place in the spring. Steve will rest with his parents and brother at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham, MI.
