Terry P. Lane, age 82, of Deerton, Michigan died unexpectedly, Monday, February 12, 2024 at his home following a brief illness.  He was born on December 16, 1941 to Bruno and Frances (Sharron) Lane in Munising, Michigan.   Terry grew up in Deerton and attended elementary school in Deerton and then Graveraet High School in Marquette. In his early days, Terry was a woodcutter alongside his brother Ralph.   He moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and worked for a company called Diessing and Milsco where he made leather seats for Harley Davidson.  While in Milwaukee, Terry met and married Judith M. Lane on October 21, 1961 and they were married sixty-two years.  Together they raised their six children.  They moved their family to Munising and then moved to Big Bay, Michigan and went back to the woods as a logger.  He worked alongside Ed Havel and Darwin Kroupa as a sawyer.  He decided to build their family home in Deerton, and he continued to work in construction jobs.  He then found his true trade as a union carpenter and pursued that for 41 years as a member of the Carpenters and Millwright Union # 1510 working on many residential and commercial buildings.  After his retirement he had a small construction company doing various construction projects for people such as framing, decking, additions, garages, roofing etc.

Terry was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council at St. Louis the King Parish in Harvey where he was a member of the Church.  He was also a member of the West Branch Sports Club, the Onota Township Board and served as Chief of the Onota Township Fire Department.  Terry was a longtime volunteer helping at the food pantry at St. Vincents De Paul in Marquette.

Terry was a hard worker.  Even after he retired, the things he did to relax were hard work.  He enjoyed his hobby farm and had many chickens and delivered dozens of eggs to his customers.  He absolutely loved his chickens.  He also plowed snow in the winter for his customers.  Terry continued to work hard right to the very end of his life.

Terry is survived by his loving wife - Judith Lane of Deerton; children – Dr. Laural Lane of Albuquerque, NM, Patricia Sweitzer of Gladstone, Michael (Jan) Lane of Negaunee Twp., Michele Metternich of Marquette and Kenneth (Kimberly) Lane of Henderson NV; daughter-in-law - Kris Lane of Mt. Joy, PA; 11 grandchildren; 7  great-grandchildren; siblings - Sharon Dale, Bonnie (Greg) Rokuski, Noreen Longuski, Dennis (Cheryl “Peanut”) Lane; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents - Bruno and Frances; son – Master Sergent Jeffrey Lane; brothers – Ralph and David Lane; and brother-in-law – Donald Dale
