Thomas S. Murdock, age 54, of Wetmore, died following a year long illness on Thursday afternoon, December 14, 2017 at UPHS Marquette. He was born on May 22, 1963 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Stewart and Lois (Lundby) Murdock. When Tom was eleven, the family moved to the Wetmore area and they owned and operated the Midway Cabins and Campground. While growing up, Tom helped work the family business and attended Munising High School. He was a member of the 1980 Class C State Football Champions and graduated from MHS in 1981. Tom then joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Braggs, NC and served a year stationed in Korea. When he was honorably discharged, he returned home and worked as a carpenter. Tom loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He also enjoyed supporting his children with their academic and athletic endeavors.
Tom is survived by his children – Thomas Murdock and Autumn “Crystal” Murdock both of Munising and Stewart and T.J. Murdock both of North Carolina; siblings – William Murdock of Missouri, Kim (Tom) Steinhoff of Munising; James (Becky Faucette) Murdock of Munising, and Robert (Laurie Luke) Murdock of Wetmore; nieces and nephews – Nancy, Steven, David, Kathy Robie, Jessica, Michael, Maria, Eugenia, Samantha, Colin, Courtney, Andrea, and Brayden; and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Diane (Jack) Nigh.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Pastor Ann Gonyea will conduct Tom’s funeral service in the funeral home’s chapel on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Munising Township Cemetery in Wetmore on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 3:30 p.m.. The American Legion and Vietnam Veteran Honor Guard will conduct military honors and Pastor Ann Gonyea will conduct graveside prayers.
