Thomas “Tommy” Tyner, age 71, of Munising, died Thursday evening, September 6, 2018 at his home under the loving care of his family and North Woods Home Hospice, following a courageous battel with ALS.  He was born on April 19, 1947 in Munising, Michigan to the late Leo and Irma (Somerville) Tyner.  Tommy graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1965.  He entered the United States Marine Corps in September of 1966 and honorably served in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.  He was Honorably Discharged as a Lance Corporal in April of 1969.  Tommy worked for over thirty years for LTV Steel in Princeton, Illinois.  He started as a machinist and was later asked to work in their business department work on computers and repairs.  After a short time in the offices, Tommy realized how much more he preferred working with his hands and returned to his position as a machinist.  Outside of work, Tommy continued his handcraftsmanship with woodworking and creating numerous bird houses, animals, and decorations.  He was also very active, and enjoyed fishing, golfing, walking, and biking the backroads.  Tommy was never one who needed a T.V., he could fill his day with music, great conversations, and reminiscing about family.  Tommy will be dearly missed by friends and family, but will always be close in their hearts.

He is survived by wife - Arlene DesArmo-Tyner of Munising; children – Mike Tyner, Jimmy Tyner, and Renee Tyner; grandchildren – Mikey, Steven, Dylan, Kirstin, Ian, Katelyn, Wesley, Hunter, Britney, and Alexis; daughter-in-law – Sue Rivord; siblings – Butch Tyner, Teddy (Margret) Tyner, Iris Bugg, Gary (Marie) McQuisten, and Shelly Davis; brother-in-law – John Nash, sister-in-law and constant support who is loved dearly – Denise Thompson; lifelong friend, caregiver, and emotial support whom is loved very much – Mary Jo Gamelin-Washam; caregivers – Sam and Michele whom were always there with their love and support; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Tommy was preceded in death by his parents – Leo Tyner and Irma and Floyd McQuisten; sister -  Katy Nash; and brother-in-law – Paul DesArmo and Donnie Thompson.
