Shingleton
Walter “Wally” E. Bower, Jr., age 70, of Shingleton died at his home following a brief illness on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. Wally was born on April 19, 1955 in Munising to Walter and Catherine (Bouschor) Bower, Sr. He entered the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged as an SP4. Wally lived in California and worked as a roofer and then Colorado where he worked at a truck stop. After returning home, Wally worked in the woods as a piece cutter cutting pulp wood for many years. He married Kristine Richardson in 1983. Wally was an outdoorsman and loved brook trout and perch fishing. He loved sitting around a bonfire playing his guitar, working on vehicles with his son, spending time with his family and pets (Dexter, Zoey, and Halo), and Wally lit up when he was with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife – Kris Bower of Shingleton; daughter – Jami Richardson of Hermansville; son – Joshawa Bower of Shingleton; grandchildren – Jessie Burke, Ashur Eli Mahoney, and Elodie Bower; siblings – Wesley Bower, Juanita Bower, Anthony Quintana, Sara Baker, and Billy Baker; brothers and sisters-in-law – Jean Tweedale, Steve (Dar) Richardson, Donnie (Bonnie) Richardson, Bobby Richardson, Lisa Richardson, and Shirley Wicker, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Kathy Payan and Linda Bower, sister-in-law Wilma (Albert) Reed.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
