William “Bill” E. Stebelton, age 61, of Van Meer, died Monday, March 27, 2017 at UP Health Systems – Marquette, following a brief illness.  He was born on December 9, 1955 to the late Kenneth and Donna (Moore) Stebelton.  Bill graduated from William G. Mather High School in 1974, and then entered into the United States Navy.  He was aboard a number of ships including the USS Holland, and was stationed in New York, Connecticut, Florida, Scotland, Newfoundland, and finally in Detroit where he was a recruiter. Bill was honorably discharged as a Yeoman E-6 in 1994 after serving our country for twenty years. He married Zita Murphy on October 17, 1977.  When he returned home, Bill worked at Glen’s Market, Maple Grove Cemetery, H&R Block.  Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 225 in Lansing and volunteered at the Munising Moose Lodge for the Friday Night Fish Fries.  He loved hunting, fishing, and walking his dog.  Bill also enjoyed bowling in leagues, throwing darts, and picnics with his family.

He is survived his wife of nearly forty years Zita Stebelton of Van Meer; son – William Stebelton II of Van Meer; siblings - Donna (Tom) MacArthur of Munising, Donald (Jeanette) Stebelton of Chatham, Susan (Ardon) Parker of Chatham, Melissa (Ronald) Freking of Taylor Mill, KY, Wallace (Megan) Stebelton of Escanaba, Meredith Thompson, Kenneth Stebelton, Jr., and Daniel (Kay) Stebelton all of Mt. Pleasant, MI and Carol Loomis of Lake, MI; brother-in-law – Shane Hunt of St. Charles, MI; aunts – Betty Edmonson, Midge Maynard, Carol (Bill) Perry; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents; sisters -  Rose Stebelton, Angel Stebelton, and Rita Hunt; brother - Philip Stebelton; sister-in-law – Kathy Stebelton; great-nephew – Damien; and great-niece – Mariah.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Bowerman Funeral Home.  Pastor Paul Kelto will conduct Bill’s funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will be at the Veteran's section of Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Sunday, August 20, 2017  at 1:00 p.m. where the American Legion and Vietnam Veteran Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
