We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Bowerman Funeral Home, Inc.
Beverly Eleanor Micallef, age 79, of Wetmore died unexpectedly, peacefully, and prayerfully at her home on Wednesday morning, June 8, 2022. She was born on June 30, 1942 in Munising to Edmund “Bob” and Brynhild “Beo” (Oas) Mitchell. Bev grew up in Munising and graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1960. She attended college at Alma and then graduated from Northern Michigan University with her bachelor's degree in education. Bev taught in Waterford Township. She met Joseph Angelo Nicholas Micallef on a dance floor in Detroit and they were married on November 29, 1969. They moved to Munising in 1976 and Bev worked for the Munising Public Schools. Mrs. Micallef was most known for teaching kindergarten, but also taught other elementary grades. She and Joe enjoyed gardening together and supporting each other in their activities. They were married over thirty-three years when Joe preceded her in death on December 21, 2002. Bev was a faithful and active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Munising. She served as organist there for decades. Bev loved nature and enjoyed being in its bounty. She especially enjoyed time at camp at Mirror Lake. Bev and Ron Latvala became companions and they enjoyed spending time together, traveling, taking car rides and laughing together. It was so nice that they both found each other after being widowed. Bev was supportive of anyone who needed anything in our community. She was the ultimate social butterfly.
Bev is survived by sons and daughters-in-law – Shawn and Jennifer Micallef of Green Bay, WI and Mark and Nancy Micallef of Wetmore; longtime friend of over seven decades – Anna Madison of Munising; companion – Ron Latvala of Munising; and caregiving roommate and friend – Judy Silverstone of Wetmore. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, and son Angelo Nicholas Micallef in 1978.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Friday, June 17, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Private funeral services will be held and interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
Memorials in Bev’s name are requested to be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Munising Moose Lodge.
