Bruce William Graves

April 13, 1952 — February 9, 2021

Munising

Bruce W. Graves, age 68, of Munising, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.  He was born Bruce William Ivio on April 13, 1952 to Stanley and Ida (Stimac) Ivio.  His father, Stanley, died of poliomyelitis when Bruce was very young.   He was lovingly raised in Shingleton by his parents, Leslie “Joe” and Ida Graves.  Bruce graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1970.  As a Mustang, he played football and excelled at wrestling.  Bruce attended Michigan Technological University before he began his own logging business, Bruce Graves Trucking.  He logged for many years and retired in 2010.  Bruce married Sally Jo Hannah on December 1, 1979 and together they raised their three sons.  Bruce enjoyed hunting and ice fishing.  He was overwhelmed in 2014 when he received one of Michigan’s coveted bull elk hunting tags and was successful when he harvested a 6 x 6.  Bruce also enjoyed hunting moose in Canada and once took a trip with his brother caribou hunting.  Bruce loved bird hunting with his sidekick, Paisley, his seven-pound yorkie bird dog.  He worked hard to support his family and enjoyed making jokes, teasing his children, and going on long drives (aka short-cuts) in the woods.  Bruce especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of over forty-one years – Sally Graves of Munising; their sons – Jason Graves of Munising, Shawn (Zachary Dean) Graves of Columbus, OH, and Ryan (Angela) Graves of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren – Halle, Hayden, Havana, Nicholas, and another grandbaby due in April; siblings – Cindy (Ed) Hines of Munising, Kim (Bruce) Robinson of Wetmore, Mark (Caryn) Graves of Shingleton, Joni (Steve) Mosier of Shingleton; in-laws – Sue (Tom) LaPean and John Hannah all of Manitowoc, WI; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Bruce was preceded in death by his parents – Stanley Ivio, Ida Graves, and Joe Graves; mother-in-law – Joann Hannah; and sister-in-law – Wanda Hannah.

Services will be held at the Munising Baptist Church in Wetmore on Monday, February 15, 2021.  Visiting time with family and friends will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.  Bruce’s memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Jason LaFlamme at 3:00 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.
