Charles "Charlie" J. Anderson

April 19, 1948 — April 6, 2020

Munising

Charles J. (Charlie) Anderson, age 71, entered eternal rest on Monday, April 6, 2020, at U.P. Health System.  Charlie was born in Munising, Michigan on April 19, 1948 to George and Estelle Anderson and was a lifelong resident of Munising.  He was a 1966 graduate of Mather High School.  Charlie began his employment with Kimberly-Clark on October 3, 1966 as a Utility Helper.  On February 4, 1968 he entered the U.S. Air Force.  Charlie served his country from February 27, 1968 to February 25, 1972.  During his military service, he was an ACFT Mechanic.  He returned to K-C on April 24, 1972 as a Trucker, progressing to Coater Operator #17 and #19.  Charlie retired on October 1, 2004 with 38 years of dedicated service at the Munising Mill, including the four years of proud service to his country.

He loved many types of music and enjoyed attending events to share good times with everyone he knew.  Charlie’s laugh and gift of conversation always made someone’s day a better one.  He would treat a stranger the same as someone he had known for years.  He cherished time spent with family and his countless friends throughout the U.P.  One of his favorite annual events was the “Potato Auction,” which became more memorable with each passing year.  He had such fun bidding and donating for a worthy cause.  Charlie loved decorating for the holidays and having family over on Christmas morning for French meatpies.  Another favorite holiday was the 4th of July.  He looked forward to seeing classmates and spending time with all he knew.  During retirement, Charlie became an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables.  He found joy in sharing everything he had grown and canned.  His salsa and jam were enjoyed by many.  Charlie’s kind, caring and giving spirit will always be remembered and be a part of us.  His company was enjoyed by many.  We were so blessed to have him in our lives.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, George and Estelle Anderson.    He is survived by his brother, George (Penny) Anderson; sister, Lynn (Larry) Passinault; nephews, Ryan (Katie) Anderson; Brock (Krissy) Anderson; Neil (Allison) Passinault, all from Munising; and niece, Amanda (Dan) Silva, Suamico; his uncle and aunts, Eileen St.Amour, Joseph (Joanne) Pelletier, Carole LaMont and many cousins.

A celebration honoring Charlie’s life will be held at a later date, including military honors.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Charlie’s name to the Munising Concert in the Park Fund (APRD, 413 Maple St., Munising, MI 49862) or the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans, Activity Fund (425 Fisher St., Marquette, MI 49855).
