Elaine M. (Burkman) Reinhardt

Elaine M. Reinhardt, age 79, of Trenary, died at her home on Saturday morning, June 12, 2021 following a lengthy illness.  Elaine was born in Highland Park, Michigan on June 18, 1941 to Leonard and Hilia (Heitikko) Burkman.  She grew up in Hazel Park and graduated from Hazel Park High School in 1959.  Elaine married Charles “Charlie” Reinhardt in 1962 and together raised their two children in Detroit and Garden City.  They were members of Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Westland.  Elaine went to the Shapiro School of Nursing and became an LPN.  She later graduated from Schoolcraft Community College with her Registered Nurse associate degree.  Elaine worked at Sinai Hospital, Nightingale West Nursing Home, Wayne County General Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital in Livonia.  In 1988, they moved to the Upper Peninsula and made their home in Trenary in 1990.  Elaine and Charlie were faithful members of St. Rita Catholic Church and the Lay Franciscans, St. Anthony of Padua.  She continued her career in healthcare and worked at Calumet Public Hospital, a home health agency, Alger Max Correctional Facility, and she retired from Munising Memorial Hospital.  Elaine was also a life member of the DAV Auxiliary and a member of the Munising Bay Quilt Guild, and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary.  She enjoyed hand work including – sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, and quilting.

Elaine is survived by her daughter – Linda Reinhardt of Trenary; son – Richard (Julie) Reinhardt of Plainwell, MI; and grandson – Aiden Reinhardt.  She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Charlie on July 25, 2018, and brother Robert Burkman.

Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m..  At 5:00 p.m. a prayer service led by the Lay Franciscans of St. Anthony of Padua Fraternity will begin the public visitation.  At 7:00 p.m. there will be Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary service and at 7:30 p.m. the Rosary will be recited.  There will also be visitation at the church on Saturday morning, June 19, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  Father Joseph Vandanoor will celebrate Elaine’s Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rita Church in Trenary at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at the Mathias Township Cemetery in Trenary.
