Elizabeth "Betty" J. (Marentette) Rousseau

Elizabeth “Betty” Rousseau, age 92, of Munising, died Saturday morning, December 21, 2019 at the Whispering Pines Adult Care Facility in Chatham.   She was born on February 14, 1927 in Royal Oak, Michigan to Raymond and Myrtle (Barteau) Marentette.  Betty graduated from St. James Parochial High School in Ferndale in 1945.  The family moved to the Upper Peninsula and Betty waitressed for her parents’ business, The Pines.  She also waitressed at other restaurants in the area.  Betty married Robert “Douse” Rousseau on May 27, 1967.  They were married over thirty-eight years when he preceded her in death on June 5, 2005.  Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Church.  She enjoyed being at home and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son – John (Kim) Hyvonen of Findlay, OH; grandsons – John (Jodie) Hyvonen and Luke (Kate) Hyvonen; great-grandchildren – Ella, Mason, and Reece; step children – Charlie (Sandra) Rousseau, Karen (Rick) O’Malley, and Ann Rousseau; sister – Pat Klosowski of Munising; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Douse, and brothers Ray, David and August “Gus” Marentette, and stepson Mike Rousseau.

Services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2019.  Visitation will be at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.  Father Michael Ocran will celebrate Betty’s funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Munising at 12:00 p.m.  Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in the spring or summer of 2020.
