Gladys M. (Gamble) Dolaskie passed away on Sunday afternoon, February 14, 2021 at Harbour View Assisted Living in Munising, MI. Glady was born in Van Meer, MI, on February 25, 1922, the eldest daughter of Harold and Pheby (Courter) Gamble. After graduating from Mather High School in 1940, Glady and Tom Dolaskie were married on Oct 25, 1940. While Tom was fighting in Germany during WWII, Glady drove a short red and white school bus to help on the home front.
In 1949 Tom and Glady bought the Dolaskie Bar in Shingleton from Tom's mother, Ana Dolaskie, and started Dolaskie's Grocery which they operated together for 30 years. Glady also worked for the US Postal Service at a number of locations including the one that was installed in their store. On retiring, Tom and Glady moved to Dana Lake and converted their cottage to their dream home on the lake.
Glady's great loves were her husband Tom, her family, cooking/baking and connecting with nature. She loved working in her flower gardens at Dana Lake, could name all the wildflowers around their home and could identify the bird songs. She and Tom also liked to harvest off the land; picking wild mushrooms, wild raspberries, elderberries, all of which she preserved in some form.
Glady was a member of and active with the Munising Baptist Church and was a member of the Munising Hospital Auxiliary. Glady was a very hard worker her whole life which she did because she wanted to provide a better life for herself and her children. Thank You, Mom.
Glady is survived by three daughters: Bonnie Lau, Kathy Manville and LuAnna McPherson, sisters Ellouise Heiftje and Connie Craven and many grandchildren and great grandchildren all of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, mother in law Ana Dolaskie, husband Tom, son Tom Dolaskie III, brothers Harvey Gamble, Glen Gamble and Alvin Gamble, and sisters Velma Park, Evie Smith, and Patty Chevrette.
The family is grateful to the staff at Harbour View who showed such kindness and patience in caring for Glady in her years of living there.
Cremation has already taken place and a small family gathering will take place in the future.
