Obituary

Munising

James R. “Jim” LeVeque, age 92, of Munising, died Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Munising Memorial Hospital.  He was born on June 30, 1930 to the late Kenneth and Margie (Meeker) LeVeque.  Jim was a standout athlete and a great running back for the Munising Mustangs.  He graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1950.  On October 28, 1950, Jim married his high school sweetheart Jacqueline Lufcy and together they raised their five children.  Jim worked for Kimberly Clark for over forty years.  He worked in the finishing room, specialties department, and then retired from the powerhouse where he was the head fireman.  Jim was a Michigan Outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, blueberry picking at the Kingston Plains, and spending time with family at camp on Nevins Lake.  He was a jack of all trades and inventor.  Jim and Jackie enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, playing cribbage, and square dancing.  They had a beautiful love for each other and their family, a love that they shared as marriage counselors to engaged couples through the church and as foster parents to many children who needed a home.  Jim was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his children – Tim (Georgette) LeVeque, Sr. of AuTrain, John (Diane) LeVeque of Raleigh, North Carolina, Dan (Debbie) LeVeque of St. Johns, Michigan, Lorie (Robert) Colburn of Phoenix, Arizona, and Lynn (Dan) Perry of Wetmore; grandchildren – Kimberly (Jason) Cady, Jesse LeVeque, Shaun (Michelle) LeVeque, Natasha (Chad) Walden, Anthony LeVeque, Josh (Elizabeth) LeVeque, Rachel Colburn, Natalie (Anthony) Piana, Ben Perry, and Chelsea Perry; granddaughter-in-law – Rhonda Mack; fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents – Ken and Margie; wife – Jackie; grandson – Timmy LeVeque, Jr.; and brothers – Larry, Art, and Ken “Lefty” LeVeque.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Michael Ocran on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Munising.  Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date.  Memorials in Jim’s name may be made to Right to Life of Michigan at https://rtl.org/donate/donate-in-memory-of/ or P.O.
