Judy (Gale) Gordon

October 7, 1942 — August 28, 2020

Eben Junction / Grosse Ile

Judy Gordon, age 77, of Eben Junction, Michigan and formerly of Grosse Ile, Michigan, died Friday, August 28, 2020 at her home under the loving care of her family and Northwoods Home Hospice, following a prolonged illness.  She was born on October 7, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan to the late William and Dorothy (White) Gale.  Judy graduated from Kimball High School in Royal Oak in 1960.  She attended college and studied marketing.  While at her roommates wedding, Judy met the groom’s brother Bill.  Their first sighting of each other could have been written into a movie.  Judy walking up from the water with the reflection of the sun behind her with an angelic look while Bill slowly drove by with his hair blowing in the wind in his parent’s 1960 Ford Thunderbird Convertible. After that first encounter and an evening getting to know each other, there was no questions in either of their minds, they too would be married.  On December 3, 1966, Judy married William Gordon, and together they raised their three sons.  As their family grew up in Gross Ile, Judy began working as realtor for Century21.  Her caring and compassionate nature made her a great realtor, helping many families find the home the was right for them.  Judy and Bill would often travel to the Upper Peninsula for vacation, fishing, and visiting their son and daughter-in-law.  When it came time for retirement, it was an easy choice for them build their dream home and to move the quiet and beautiful U.P.  Judy was a talented at sewing, knitting, cross stitching, needlepoint, and quilting.  Judy would quilt with the Marquette County Quilters Association and made many dear friends along the way.  She was awarded the Blue Ribbon at the Alger County Fair for the quilts she entered.  Although she could not talk her sons into quilting, she encouraged her daughter-in-law and granddaughter to get a sewing machine and taught them how to quilt, this was a talent she was proud to share and pass on.  Judy was a member of the Skandia Lioness.  Judy also enjoyed working in her flower gardens, reading a good book while laying in the sun, and traveling with Bill, especially to Maui.  Judy had the ability to make friends wherever she was.  When you talked to her you could see her genuine interest in you and what you had to say.  Judy will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-three years – William Gordon of Eben, MI; sons – William (Rita) of Michigan, Eric (Janie) of Georgia, and Sean (Deanna) of Illinois; grandchildren – Jack, Will, Grace, Shauna, Charlie, Samantha, Maxwell, and Ayla; brother – William (Marilyn) Gale; sister-in-law – Marilyn Svee;  and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents William and Dorothy.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m.  Due to Michigan’s executive orders, masks will be required, and social distance rules will be in place.   Interment will be on Friday, September 4, 2020  at 12:00 noon at the Grosse Ile Memorial Cemetery in Grosse Ile, Michigan, the time of the interment will be announced once time is set.
