Justin Taskey

October 6, 1979 — January 4, 2021

Chatham / Carp Lake

Justin Taskey, age 41, of Chatham and Carp Lake, Michigan, died Monday, January 4, 2021 at his family home due to complications stemming from a previous motorcycle accident.  He was born on October 6, 1979 in Marquette, Michigan to Tom and Elaine (Nelson) Taskey.  Justin grew up a mischievous child who loved to tease his family and friends, a trait he never grew out of.  He enjoyed riding dirt bikes, snowshoeing and snowboarding at the ski hill in Chatham.  Justin graduated from Superior Central High School in 1998.  He worked for several years at the New Moon Bar in Eben, as a maintenance worker for American Eagle at Sawyer, and as a mechanic at Junction Auto.  Justin became certified as a heavy equipment operator and specialized as a crane operator with the Local 324 Operators Engineers.  He worked on many projects at the mines and paper mills, but his favorite was the construction at the Island Casino. On a chance meeting, Justin met Kurston Meadows at the New Moon Bar, and although neither went there that day looking for anything, they both found the love of their lives and they were married on July 3, 2010.  Justin loved to ride his motorcycle.  He was a founding member of the Blackhawks Motorcycle Club where he found his love for riding with the motorcycling brotherhood which led him to join the Jokers Motorcycle Club.  One of his favorite rides was to cross the Mackinac Bridge on his bike riding on the center grate and feeling the sway of the bridge.  Justin had an extreme love for his dogs, Misty, Ace, Sky, Rocky, and his rescued Pitbull Sasha who opened his eyes on how to love and care for those who were in trouble.  He enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting, swimming, collecting knives and guns, and listening to music.  Justin’s music choices ranged from old time country, rap, rock, and Elvis, and he would find a connection to the music and it get lost in it.  Although his accident limited his physical abilities, his love for his family, dogs, and music grew and grew.  Justin was loved by all who met him, people were drawn to his personality and infectious smile.

He is survived by his wife – Kurston Taskey of Carp Lake; parents – Tom and Elaine Taskey of Chatham; sister – Heather (Pat) Beckwith of Eben; grandparents – Richard and Mary Nelson of Sundell, mother and father-in-law – David and Jill Meadows of Nestoria, MI, brothers and sisters-in-law – Nathan (Amanda) Meadows of Ishpeming and Terry (Maritza) Meadows of Los Angeles, CA; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and god-sons – Will, Hunter, and Jonah.  Justin was preceded in death by his grandparents Raymond and Mary Taskey whom he considered his best friend.
