Kathleen “Kathi” Usimaki, age 73, of Wetmore, died unexpectedly on Thursday afternoon, October 24, 2019 at her home following a brief illness. She was born on October 8, 1946 in Wyandotte, Michigan to Orval “Buster” and Rosemary (Beauparland) Morrison. Kathi grew up in the Ann Arbor area. She graduated from St. Thomas High School and then St. Joseph’s Nursing School. While visiting her grandmother in Munising, she met Edward W. Usimaki, Jr. They fell in love, were married on February 17, 1968, and together raised their daughters. Kathi worked as an L.P.N. at Superior Shores, Tendercare, Superior Health Haven, and Commission on Aging. She lovingly cared for many people over the years of her nursing career, and Kathi was a hard worker. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church an enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and knitting.
She is survived by her husband of over fifty-one years – Ed Usimaki of Wetmore; their daughters – Susan Herdt of Lakeport, CA, Sheila (Brian Juchniewich) Anderson of Kimberly, WI, and Ann Kuhn of Kimberly, WI; seven grandchildren – Stevie, Preston, Sean, Brett, Mason, Maeghan, and Victoria; siblings – Paul (Mary) Morrison, Susette Sebeck, John (Brenda) Morrison, Anthony (Tammy) Morrison, and Matthew (Denise) Morrison; in-laws – Alma Morrison, Kathy Morrison, Lorayne (Donald) Lehigh, and Carol (William) Burrows; and numerous nieces and nephews. Kathi was preceded in death by her parents Buster and Rosemary Morrison, brothers Thomas and William Morrison, parents-in-law Edward and Jennie Usimaki, and brother-in-law Larry Sebeck.
Services will be held at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 2, 2019. Visiting time with family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Pastor Mark Werner will conduct Kathi’s memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
