Neil A. Moore, age 73, of Gwinn and formerly of Alger County, died on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at UPHS Marquette following a lengthy illness.  He was born on March 11, 1946 in Melstrand, Michigan the son of the late James and Marjorie (McLeod) Moore.  Neil grew up in Melstrand and attended Wm. G. Mather High School.  In 1966, he went to work for the Laborer’s Union Local 1329 out of Iron Mountain and worked throughout the U.P. and retired in 1995.  Neil had married Betty Walsh Gumuski on July 4, 1985.  He was a member of the Marquette congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  Neil was an excellent carpenter and woodworker, and he enjoyed long rides in the woods and fishing.

He is survived by his wife – Betty Moore of Gwinn; children – William Raymond (Linda) Clements of Roodhouse, IL, James Edward (Michelle) Moore of Coopersville, MI, and Ronald Wayne (Melissa) Moore of Harrison, OH; stepchildren – Betty Ann Jones and David Thomas Gumuski; numerous grandchildren; siblings –Terry (Randy) VanDeraa of Kingsport, TN, Gordon (Karen) Moore of Marquette, Tom (Katie) Moore of Chatham, and Tim Moore, Sr. of Antigo, WI; brother-in-law – Roger Gager; numerous nieces, nephews, and other “kids” that he loved as his own.         Neil was preceded in death by his parents, sister Iris Gager, and stepson Kenneth Richard Gumuski.

Services will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising.  Visiting time with family and friends will be from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Gary John will conduct Neil’s memorial service at 2:00 p.m.  Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising at a later date.
