Richard R. Holland, Sr., age 52, died unexpectedly in his sleep at his home on Monday, May 30, 2022. He was born on March 16, 1970 in Santa Monica, California to the late Larris and Joan (Flynn) Holland. Richard grew up in West Los Angeles and then in his mid 20’s, he moved to Tennessee to help care for his parents. He worked for the Benton County School District as Bus Driver and served as captain of the Eva Flatwoods Volunteer Fire Department. Richard met and married Danielle Rice and together raised their family. In 1998, the family moved to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and he worked as a chef for the Soaring Eagle Resort. In 2018, the family moved to the Upper Peninsula. Richard was an active member of the Masonic Fraternity. He was raised a Master Mason in the Wabon #305 in Mt. Pleasant where he served as Worshipful Master in 2013. After moving to the Upper Peninsula, Richard transferred to Grand Island Lodge #422 F&AM. He also belonged to the Alma Chapter #123, Royal Arch Masons and Mt. Pleasant Chapter #55, Order of the Eastern Star. He served as Associate Bethel Guardian of Mt. Pleasant Bethel #61, Job’s Daughters. In his free time, he loved being with his family, especially his granddaughters. Richard also enjoyed cooking, playing poker, and playing games with family and friends. He was an LA Dodgers fan, but Richard was a diehard Chicago Bears fan.
He is survived by his children – Thomas Holland of Central Michigan, Elizabeth Holland (Nick Maxon), Erin Holland (Jordan Thorp), and Richard “Junie” Holland, Jr. all of Munising; his beloved, adored, and cherished granddaughters – Riley and Charlotte; the love of his life – Danielle Holland; brothers – Bill (Lyn) Holland, Keith (Debbie) Holland, and Patrick Holland, all of California; nieces and nephew – Robin Pankey, Nicole Munez, and Andrew Holland. Richard was preceded in death by his parents – Larris and Joan Holland, daughter – Baby Girl Holland in 1997, and brother – Robert Holland.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. and there will be family and Masonic services beginning at 2:00 p.m.
