Richard “Dick” Laurich, age 81, of Munising, died following a three-week illness at UPHS Marquette on Sunday, January 16, 2022. He was born at his family home at Forest Lake on March 29, 1940 to John and Mary (Kordish) Laurich. Dick was raised at Forest Lake and attended school in Chatham. In 2015, Dick moved to the Jericho House in Munising and enjoyed walking around town and visiting with the tourists. He and his niece, Diane Rantz, spent many days together hiking the North Country Trail, snow shoeing, exercising at the Alger Parks and Recreation Fuzzy Fitness Center, and just spending time together. Dick was Diane’s assistant to her role on the Alger County Fair Board. He was a faithful member of the Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham where he also enjoyed his church family. Sunday rituals were spent attending church, eating dinner with Diane, and then an evening of playing Skipbo. He also spent three days a week with the Commission on Aging Activity Club. Dick liked listening to music. He enjoyed Saturday nights listening to Elmer Aho on the radio, enjoyed Country and Western music and gospel, and enjoyed the Concert in the Park Series held during the summer months. Dick enjoyed visiting with everyone and he was a kind and gentle soul who loved fishing and talking baseball.
He is survived by a nephew – Tony, nieces – Cleone, Carrie, Korinne, Diane, Bonnie, and Judy, and good friend - Victor Pajunen. Dick was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Laurich, brother John (Joyce) Laurich, sisters Julie (Chet) Milecki and Sophie (Walter) Lustyk, niece Susie, and nephew Jim.
Visitation will be on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Pastor Paul Kelto will conduct Richard's funeral at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Grave side service will be at 2:00 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
