Richard R. “Rich” Hill, age 84, of Munising, died Thursday, September 1, 2022 at his home.  He was born on April 17, 1938 in Chatham, MI to the late Floyd and Pearl (Humphrey) Hill.  Rich grew up in Van Meer, and then graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1956.  He married Carole Jean Heyrman on June 27, 1959 and together they raised their four children.  Rich worked for a short time on the railroad and then began working as an industrial painter.  He painted on the Mackinac Bridge, Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge, and many radio towers.  Rich began logging for Bob Graves, and eventually purchased his equipment to start Rich Hill Logging.  Rich worked for many years in the woods and logged all across Alger County and surrounding areas and eventually retired at the age of 75.  In his younger years, Rich loved racing snowmobiles with Team Skidoo TNT Racing, also known as Chum’s Bums.  He loved camping at Cusino Lake with the Steinhoff and Burke families, naming their site “Camp Burkhillstein”.  Rich was a member of the Independent Truckers Association.  He had the honor of transporting the State of Michigan’s official Christmas Tree to Lansing back in early 90’s.  Rich enjoyed four-wheeling, driving his side-by-side, hunting, brook trout fishing, and gardening.

He is survived by his children – David Hill of Shingleton, Thomas (Chom) Hill of AuTrain, Bryan (Kathy) Hill of Munising, and Lori (Eugene) Walsh of Munising; grandchildren – Brent (Carrie) Hill, Brad (Megan) Hill, Michael (Melaina) Hill, Matthew (Sarah) Hill, Angela (Jarrett) Neilson, Amy (Beau) Peterson, Ashley (Curtis) Crumpton, Lynsey (Brad) Landis, Samantha (Nate) Walsh, and Ricky Walsh; great-grandchildren – Carter, Ethan, Shaun, Sarah, Makayla, Makenzie, Leora, Ellie, Alexa, Logan, Chloe, Eli, and Bentley; and many siblings, nieces and nephews.  Rich was preceded in death by his wife Carole in 2018, parents Floyd and Pearl, and brothers William and Bob Hill.
