Ronald “Marty” Martell

1940-2019

Beloved father and grandfather Ronald “Marty” Martell, 79, was called home to eternal life on May 4, 2019, in Bluffton, South Carolina, after years of declining health.

Marty was born in Manistique , the son of Howard and Lila (Beauchamp) Martell.

Marty worked numerous jobs in the woods throughout his life, delivered newspapers for The Mining Journal, and later as a jack-of-all trades at Hillcrest Motel in Munising.

Marty was an avid fan of Detroit and Michigan sports teams. After moving to SC, he could usually be found in front of his computer watching Tigers baseball or Lions football on the Internet.

Marty also enjoyed being outside in nature and trying to strike it rich with scratch-off lottery tickets.

He spent the final years of his life under his daughter’s care in SC where he was a regular sight in his wheelchair on the sidewalks around Westbury Park. He found great joy visiting with the neighbors and feeding treats to the neighborhood dogs.

Marty is survived by son Marty Martell of Shingleton and his significant other Kathy LaPrarie, daughter Natalie Haapala (Barry), grandsons Clay Martell, Corey Steinhoff, Ben Haapala (Karsen) and Nick Haapala, and two great grandchildren, Keegan Haapala and Oliver Haapala.

At Marty’s request, there will be no formal service. The family appreciates any well wishers who may wish to leave a remembrance of Marty and sign his guestbook.
