Iron Mountain / Munising

Wayne Lee Brock, Sr., age 73, of Iron Mountain and formerly of Munising, died unexpectedly on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Dickinson County Hospital.  He was born in Munising, Michigan on April 10, 1948 to the late Harold and Irene (Graves) Brock.  Wayne who was a friend to all and lovingly known as “Chum” for this reason, grew up in Munising where he spent the majority of his life.  Chum co-owned and operated the Country Connection for many years alongside his beloved partner, Phyllis, who he married in 1988.  Together they ran the bar and restaurant for 28 years.  He was known for his excellent cooking skills (made the best burgers and chili in town), his witty sense of humor, and a gifted singing voice.  He crooned like Elvis and was often one to pick up the microphone to sing at family gatherings.  Chum was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan and especially enjoyed taking rides with Phyllis and visiting gambling casinos, playing in smear league, fishing excursions in Canada, hunting with his boys, and his dog “Bella”.

He is survived by his children – Teresa (Wayne) Koenig of Munising, Rachelle (Bob) Hannah of Wetmore, Wayne (Stacy) Brock and Scott (Laura) Brock all of Iron Mountain, Sheri (Al) Quattrin of Virginia, Todd (Paula) Brock and Shaun “Stub” (Rena) Brock all of Munising; twenty-one grandchildren – Dylan, Gabi, Jordan, Olivia, Leslie, Brett, Josh, Denae, Nicholas, Kent, Samantha, Maggie, Alice, Katie, Eric, Leanne, Brent, Amy, Kris, Shaun Jr., and Kenzie; seven great-grandchildren; siblings – Arland (Phyllis) Brock of Munising, Diann (Gene) Cline of Washington, David (Marie) Brock of California, Bonnie (Leslie) Trumbell of Iron Mountain, and LaPrel Morrison of Wetmore; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and his cherished furry sidekick Bella.  Chum was preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis Brock, brother Billy, and granddaughter Bridget Brock.
